Maymont Memorial Hall held a garage sale June 21. Between rain and a power outage, it turned out to be a pretty good day. Thanks to everyone who helped, booked tables and donated to this event.
In the evening about 30 hall members gathered for a potluck supper and jam session. Thanks to all of you who came out.
All the hall members were there helping out except me. Yes, me. I was in Saskatoon doing two events. One was shopping - yes, I shopped till I dropped-and then to see my very special favourite singer in the whole world, next to my husband Mel and Neil Diamond.
For anyone who missed Cher's concert, you missed a concert of a lifetime. I don't think you'll see anything like it anywhere else except maybe for Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas. Pictures of Sonny flashed across a screen while Cher made her costume changes - 11 in total. In one part, Sonny was on screen and Cher was singing to him.
Cher is 68. Who would have thunk? My age. What's her secret? It must be cosmetic surgery, wigs and makeup which make her look as young and beautiful as she does.
At one point, a giant, gold Trojan horse came from the back of the stage and Cher emerged singing, Take it Like a Man. Cher sang old songs and new songs. My favourite was the last one, I Hope You Find It. She had on a demure pink gown and halo headgear, emerging through the crowd on an enclosed glittery platform which dangled from a cable. The girls beside me were crying; it was truly beautiful.
Cyndi Lauper, who started the evening, was turning 61 June 22. The audience sang Happy Birthday to her. I'm not sure how many people were there to sing but I'm thinking it was a full house.
Hope all had a Happy Canada Day.
