This Saturday, Nov. 24 Payton residentscame together for a great day of events at Paynton Rec Center; the very building in need of a new roof and the reason for an all-day fundraiser. Raise the Roof was a huge success, which resulted in the group exceeding their goal of $1500 and raising over $2500.

Starting with the Annual Christmas Craft sale, vendor table fees were donated to the cause along with the money made from the Library Board lunch.

Danica Lorer painted faces and told stories while kids coloured and made paper airplanes and participants enjoyed the atmosphere.

Ross Currie and the Yellowhead Ramblers along with another group from the Battleford area played all evening, keeping everyone entertained with their old time music.

Toes were tapping and people were dancing over to the silent auction tables where many donated items were on display.

People from all walks of life were walking around with painted faces and big smiles as they took in the small community feeling that seemed to come out of every corner.

The bands decided not to play on the stage but on the floor kitty corner from each other so they could duel back and forth with their entertaining music.

The art vendors along with the fire department kept their display tables up for the entire event so people would have something to do when stretching their legs. Cindy's Place (Mother Ducks) from Maidstone donated the perfectly cookedbeef for supper, which was enjoyed by all, and many donated silent auction items, including Bruce McFayden ofWasecawith eight birdhouses and a cheque. Nice to see the community spirit reaching far and wide.

The Village of Paynton has taken on the task of cleaning up damaged and dying trees in the village park. Davey tree trimmers were out for days cutting down and trimming up the trees surrounding the park. Village council is planning a tree planting program in the spring to help keep the park looking its best. To help with the village initiatives, please contact the village office at 895-2023.
