The Battlefords Art Club has a long history of supporting visual arts in the community. It promotes exhibits of local work with the aim of encouraging its members in developing their potential for creating satisfying artwork in any medium. The club also encourages visits by artists from elsewhere and promotes a variety of workshops. The club meets regularly Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Don Ross Centre and new members are always welcome.
When I started exploring art many years ago, I chose the path to painting. One of many teachers was Nesa Denato in Mesa, Ariz. She holds a masters degree in art and was my mentor and guide for many years.
I took to pastel because it was the type of painting I was interested in. Pastel is the best place to start to learn colour.
Another great teacher was Betty Braig (MDA) of Mesa. From her I learned about watercolour and acrylic painting. The translucence and crisp colours intrigued me.
Gaining technical competence and being proud to have painted the picture were part of the journey. Going out to a scene to capture a landscape was the best part of the learning process.
I learned there are three things in a painting - drawing, second drawing and third drawing.
I always strive to achieve a better painting next time and if it becomes a chore, I go golfing and then I understand what frustration is all about.
I continue to be enthused and my joy in painting continues as the years go by.
I am a member of the Battlefords Art Club, Cochin Art Club, Chapel Gallery and the Mesa Art League.
My husband Keith and I have moved to North Battleford after living at Murray Lake for 28 years.
I have a gallery at my residence. For viewing call 306-445-1952.
Art Notes

It is always a great pleasure to come together in art and to see each artist apply their own style, technique and colour. As we develop the painting to completion, each painting is different, illustrating the wonders of the creative artist. It so exciting to see all the paintings when completed. Happy painting!
