The Borden Friendship Club held their January potluck supper Jan. 29, with 35 out to enjoy the evening. Celebrating birthdays for December were Jean Hryniuk and, for January, Elizabeth Derksen and Lorraine Olinyk. A variety of decorated cupcakes were brought by Anne Palmer and Audrey Baker. There were six absent who had birthdays in those two months - Dianne Rawlyk, Don Brand, Frank Block, John Longmore, Ted Mandziak and Gladys Wensley.
Rita Smith, project co-ordinator for the club, sent a letter announcing the grant applied for from the New Horizons of Saskatchewan had been approved. The club will be getting $10,000 to go to re-shingling our portion of the Borden Community Centre roof and $13,500 for improvements to the park, including improved and enlarged washrooms, cement bench and picnic table, community garden plots and a public orchard with fruit trees developed for our climate by the University of Saskatchewan.
These new grants, added to our previous two New Horizons program grants, amount to $60,000 in funds the Friendship Club has brought to our community. A vote of appreciation was given to Rita Smith who has worked so diligently on these grants over the years.

James is the National Grand Master Fiddle Champion and he and Lionel played many toe-tapping tunes, waltzes, Ukrainian Kalamaka, Don Messer and Al Chorney tunes, closing with Show Me the Way to Go Home and the Orange Blossom Special.
