Halloween in Borden was pretty quiet with not as many trick-or-treaters out as usual. The businesses and a few streets had over 50 but mainly there were under 40 on the other streets and no tricks played as far as I know. The school kids from Grades K - 6 carved pumpkins, had their annual ring of fire in the gym, paraded around school with their costumes and then had parties in the afternoon.

A 90th birthday tea was held at the Borden Care Home Nov. 2 for Dorothy Buswell of Borden. Her three sons - John, Alan and Neil - and their spouses were all here for the event along with some grandchildren and great-grandson Lucas. Each son introduced their families, then told some memories of their mom from growing up on the farm. John sang There's a Bluebird on Your Windowsill with everyone joining in the chorus. Happy Birthday was sung and Dot and Lucas blew out the candles on the cupcakes.

Tina Hessell and Lorraine Olinyk, from Radisson Royal Purple Lodge No. 347, travelled to Saskatoon RP Lodge No. 46 for a roast beef supper, Oct. 28. They stayed for their regular meeting, then special guest Supreme Honoured Royal Lady Regina MacLean from Kamloops, B.C., brought greetings from the national executive.

She told of the upcoming changes in Royal Purple and how they came to be. By the end of 2014, all Royal Purple Lodges have to vote on whether to join the Canadian Royal Purple Society or become a Royal Purple Elks Lodge by joining the Elks of Canada. Also bringing greetings from the Saskatchewan Royal Purple Association was Audrey Griffith of Meota, who is the provincial president.

The junior girls played in the first volleyball finals Oct. 28, in Hepburn, and lost out after some very hard fought games.

The senior boys played in an 11-team tournament in Wakaw Nov. 1, hosted by Bellevue. The Borden team won two against LaLoche and Medstead and lost two to Humboldt and Annaheim in the round robin. They won their game in the 3a vs 3b against Bellevue, placing fifth overall. They have only one extra player so they did well playing against teams from larger schools with more players.

The boys host their own tournament Nov. 8, then go to Dinsmore for the conference finals Nov. 15.

The senior girls' volleyball team travel to Saskatoon to Legacy Christian Academy Nov. 8 for their conference playoffs.
