January has flown by and there is much on the agenda in Unity for February. Give yourself a high five for surviving the 10-day polar vortex. Thankfully 10 days of balmy temperatures followed. Here’s hoping the groundhog gives us some good news this weekend.
Hollyhock’s Greenhouse dealt with Blue Monday by giving out free flowers, while taking a silver collection earmarked for the mental wellness support group.
February brings exciting hockey action to the rink as teams have begun league playoffs and provincial playdowns. Midget AA Lazers play at home Feb. 8 and 9.
Check with any Unity Kin Club member, at Unity Motor Products with Bryce or What the Float with Nora to purchase tickets for the Feb. 14 Sweetheart Soiree benefiting Telemiracle 45.
Unity Curling Club members will be watching the SaskTel Tankard provincial men’s curling this weekend in Melville. Glenn Heitt is competing with the Brad Heidt rink. UCC curler Lloyd Fell also takes a familiar team to this event. Fell is joined by third Robert Bakken, second Trevor Gerein and lead Curtis Bowker. The club is also playing host to junior high school districts, an oilpersons’ bonspiel and planning for the annual ladies’ spiel in March.
Tickets are now available for Celebrate Unity to be held March 2. This event will include the folk music of Flint and Feather along with a catered supper, silent auction and presentation portion of the program.
The Unity Museum will hold their annual general meeting Feb. 19 at the Adanac Hall. Membership is only $5 for three years, and the committee is always looking for new members. Sunday brunches will continue at the museum until April. First big event for the museum in 2020 will be the family fun day Feb. 17. Activities will include sleigh rides, snow games, food and much more and is free for the whole family. Donations to the museum will be accepted.
