We haven't had much thunder yet this summer, but Sunday we had a number of thundershowers. There was still plenty of moisture from last week's rains so today's showers just slowed down the weeding process in gardens.
On the evening of June 24, 18 community members gathered at the home of Yvonne and Kevin Pike to discuss community concerns. The main topic for discussion was the school building that has been used as a community centre since it closed as a school. The building has not been used for any activities for the past few years and is deteriorating. It was decided to sell the building, if possible. Craig and Deiedre Blyth offered to take care of advertising it online. If this is successful a date for removal will be set.
A farewell social for all interested will be held in the schoolyard on July 27 at 11 a.m. The social will feature a potluck dinner. Anyone interested in visiting the building is invited to come.
Other items discussed were Forest Bank's section of the hospital yard in Maidstone. Ideas were put forward so this section can be completed.
Yvonne and Kevin Pike offered to be president and secretary of the community group replacing Eileen Evans and Lynn Blyth who had served in those positions for many years. Eileen and Lynn were thanked for their many years of work with a round of applause.
Thank you to Kevin and Yvonne for their hospitality and for the coffee and lunch hour that followed the meeting.
Lois Pike recently enjoyed a visit from Dennis and Jeanette Pike of Indian Head. Dennis and Jeanette are spending the summer at Loon Lake.
