Former resident passes away

This week I learned of the death of a former Waseca resident, Beatrice Hunter who was living in Vancouver at the time of her death Nov. 25.

This week I learned of the death of a former Waseca resident, Beatrice Hunter who was living in Vancouver at the time of her death Nov. 25.

Bea, as she was known to us all when she lived here, was born in 1921 to Bill and Grace Wandell who were living in the Dee Valley district. They later moved to the Lilydale district south of Maidstone where she and her nine brothers and sisters grew up.

When she grew up Bea worked in the Waseca district where she met and married Nick Chucas, a Waseca resident, in 1940. They lived a busy life raising two children, Winnie and Terry, and being very active in Waseca life.

After the death of her husband in 1958, Bea and her family moved to North Vancouver. Bea found employment there and in 1962 remarried to George Hunter. She spent the remainder of her life working and living in that area.

Bea, a vibrant individual, kept in touch with friends in the Waseca area. She was predeceased by her husband, George. Her son Terry and his family live in California and Winnie and family live in Pitt Meadows. We extend our sympathy to them and to Bea's many friends.

Congratulations to Cole and Tamara Snell on the birth of their daughter Isobel. She was born in North Battleford Nov. t, a sister for Jayden.

Sunday at 5:30 p.m. folks from Waseca and area met at the Waseca Community Centre where they enjoyed a potluck supper and meeting their neighbours. As usual there was an abundance of a variety of food.

During the evening the children enjoyed decorating a Christmas tree and playing together.

The Community Centre Committee plan to sponsor a monthly potluck supper. The next one will be held on the last Sunday in January.

Our best wishes to Art Strasser who is presently a patient in Maidstone Hospital.

Did you know the superstition about spilling salt bringing bad luck can be traced to the painting of the last supper? In that painting, Judas Iscariot is shown overturning the salt.
