Floor hockey team reigns supreme

The Neilburg Composite School Grade 5 and 6 floor hockey team headed to Maidstone for the annual tournament May 11.

The Neilburg Composite School Grade 5 and 6 floor hockey team headed to Maidstone for the annual tournament May 11. The team consisted of Lindsay Gibbons, Craig Hewko, Kristian Hiscock, Wyatt Marshall, Ethan Moir, Jacob Peters, Jarrod Ryan and Colby Urlacher. The goaltending was done by Kristian, Colby and Jacob. The boys played teams from Lashburn, Maidstone and Marshall, and were undefeated. The top teams played in a playoff round where the Neilburg boys were again undefeated. The boys played superbly and had a lot of fun. They were coached by Mrs. Winsor and Mrs. Newport. Special appreciation to the drivers, Stephanie Gibbons and Diahann Urlacher.

The NCS SRC held a barbecue and bake sale May 20, to help pay for the $1,300 projector screen they had mounted in the gym. Burgers, hot dogs and sweets were available. The SRC is hosting their wind-up ball tournament June 17 for students in Grades 7 through 12. Mark the high school awards day on your calendar. Student achievements will be recognized June 21, beginning at 2 p.m. The elementary students will be hosting a celebration of success June 28. SRC elections, for the 2011-12 academic year, will be held June 9.

Greg Gross reports the Gross Classic Volleyball Tournament drew enthusiastic participation. The assistance of the WIM's gym and the Legion helped to make the day what it was. Eight teams participated in a competitive day. The final between the Volk team and the NCS teacher team was "the finest match" [Mr. Gross] has personally witnessed in the past 30 years. It was a set match with the Volk team winning the third set 25-23. Thanks to all the players for making it a special day of volleyball.

Summer is just around the corner and planning is well underway for the SonSurf Beach Bash - Vacation Bible school at Manitou Evangelical Free Church in Neilburg. It will be held July 18 to 22 from 9 a.m. to noon. All those aged six through 12 years (as of December 2011) are welcome to attend. Contact the church office for additional information.
