It's with gratitude, relief and excitement that the Village of Maymont has a new floodwater drainage pipeline project in operation. After many years of seeing the water rise in the northwest corner of Maymont along Highway 16, this project is now draining water to the North Saskatchewan River through a series of pipelines and a special pump.

Maymont village council, with the help of the Water Security Agency and consulting engineer, Jim Kary of Clifton Associates Ltd., were able to come up with a design to build a pipeline from the slough in the north, crossing under the railway tracks to a dugout in the south and onto a connecting pipe going to the river.

The project was installed by Unicon Pipeline Ltd. and construction was completed May 24. We have pumped 8.5 million gallons of water since then.

Funding was provided under the 2012 emergency flood damage reduction program and the new deal gas tax fund.
