TISDALE — A flock of two dozen plastic flamingos may soon show up on your lawn as part of an effort to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan.

Sarah Turnbull, as well as Janke LLP and Bespoke Interior Design, are offering residents the chance to direct a flock of two dozen flamingos to a yard of their choice.

The mandate of Ronald McDonald House Charities Saskatchewan is to provide accommodation for families of sick children traveling to Saskatoon to receive medical treatment.

In 2019, eight families from Tisdale used the Ronald McDonald House. Turnbull is one of them, with her daughter Blake having spina bifida.

“We’re a Ronald McDonald House family. We’ve gone there several times in the past year-and-a-half, and like many charities they’ve had to cancel some big fundraising events,” Turnbull said.

“Our daughter had two brain surgeries last year and both times we were able to utilize the Ronald McDonald House.”

For the fundraiser, throughout the month of September, with a minimum donation of $50, residents can direct the flock to any yard in the town.

The flamingos will flee for a matching donation. Otherwise, they will be stationed there for one day.

“We really wanted to do something to give back, that’s what brought about the pink flamingos,” Turnbull said.

“When I was little you used to put something on people's lawns for their birthdays, and that’s kind of what you did in the ‘80s or ‘90s, and flamingos are easily available and affordable. It’s pretty easy to get 50 flamingos.”

People can reserve the flamingos at [email protected].

“We have a lot of gratitude to the community for participating in this, and for being there for us when we do have medical challenges. It means a lot.”
