The Neilburg Seniors held their monthly games day April 1 at the Friendship Korner. Edith Christensen and Marlene Washenfelder teamed up to win the A side of the shuffleboard tournament. Jackie Goodall and Vonnie Rutherford were the runners-up. On the B side, Edna Jeffrey and Rose Leitheiser took top spot with Della Thom and Shirley Nuspl coming in second. Lyle Thom was the lucky raffle winner. During the afternoon, cribbage was played. Cindy Vetter and John McGarry had the high hands and Susie Brock and Marlene Spence were the low players. Regular games days have been halted for the summer months. They will resume at the beginning of October.

All citizens of Neilburg and area are invited to participate in a fitness challenge. This will involve committing to doing 50 minutes of daily exercise over a 40-day period from May 6 through to June 25. This is actually a 50-day calendar period so it allows for a few days off or you can be a "super challenger" and go for exercising for the whole 50 days. Participants can walk, run, jog, skip, throw a ball - whatever you like. Just do 50 minutes of exercise a day (and the 50 minutes doesn't need to be in one continuous block of time). Each Monday you can enter your name and mark down how many days you completed the challenge. This will be done on the Neilburg Composite School website at http://www.nwsd.ca/schools/ncs/ and then click on the Fitness Challenge tab. There will be prizes and you will feel better and be ready for bikini season. The grand prize is a weekend for two at the mineral spa in Moose Jaw. If you have any questions about this venture, or wish to sign up, please contact Brenda Gross. There is a small $10 charge for participating. This fitness challenge is sponsored by the Village of Neilburg, the Wellness In Manitou gym and Neilburg Composite School.

The Wellness In Manitou fitness centre has been closed for the last month, due to work that needed to be done to the foundation of the Neilburg Community Hall (the gym is located in the basement of the facility). Originally, it was thought the repairs would not take long, but when the construction workers started the job they discovered it was more involved than they initially thought. Apologies to the members for the inconvenience this temporary closure has been, but it is hoped that by getting the repairs done correctly, it will alleviate any further water problems. The Village of Neilburg and the Community Hall Board were able to get a grant in place to enable the work to be done. WIM was scheduled to reopen May 2 and members will have their usage extended to make up for the period when the centre was unavailable for use.

Brenda Ryall holds fitness classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m., and again on Monday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. People are welcome to use the gym at these times. A new piece of equipment has been purchased. It is called a "leg abduction adduction machine." If you have any other ideas about equipment that could be purchased or things that should be considered, please contact one of the board members. The current board members are: Cathy Ducherer, Brenda Ryall, Kara McGarry, Janet Black, Deb Hein, Lisa McGarry, Sarah Hein and Brenda Gross.
