Fields are being steadily emptied

The fine weather, very much like summer, has made it possible for great progress in harvesting. The last few days have seen many fields emptied and several farmers completing their harvest. It is good to see a fall where there is ample time after harvest to do the many things that have to be done on the farm. It sounds as though the warm fall weather will continue this week. Sunday is a full moon and for those of us who note nature, we could see a change in the water a couple of days after full moon.

Our congratulations to S. Sgt. Barbara Hope, who was recently awarded a Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal. Barbara is the daughter of Cliff and Doreen Hope of Maidstone. She joined the RCMP 25 years ago and since that time has been posted at Bonavista, Nfld., Happy Valley Goose Bay, Nfld., Drumheller, Alta, Assumption, Alta. and Edmonton, where she is part of RCMP K Division.

Barbara's mother and her sister, Jean McCall travelled to Edmonton for the presentation ceremony in the Beverley Hills Ballroom of the Fantasy Land Hotel in West Edmonton Mall Sept. 12. Some 200 people from different walks of life were presented with Dimaond Jubilee medals by Alberta's Lt.-Gov. Donald Ethell. A luncheon followed the elaborate ceremony,

Antonyna Otteson and children, Vladamir and Anastatia returned Sept. 16 from five weeks spent in Odessa, Ukraine visiting with Antonyna's mother, other relatives and friends. They had an interesting time spending many hours on the beaches and in the water of the Black Sea. Anastatia especially enjoyed swimming with the dolphins in the pools by the Black Sea. Seals and white whales also inhabit those pools.

Best wishes to Tristan Blyth and Anastatia Otteson as they attended kindergarten in Maidstone. Kindergarten classes take place very second day.
