Father's music inspires songwriting hobby

I am writing in remembrance of my dad, who passed away Sept. 11, 1993. His birthday was Aug. 15, 1924. He was a champion violin player. I overheard him one time saying he used to play fiddle with Don Messer. He taught me how to play a bit of guitar.

I am writing in remembrance of my dad, who passed away Sept. 11, 1993. His birthday was Aug. 15, 1924. He was a champion violin player. I overheard him one time saying he used to play fiddle with Don Messer. He taught me how to play a bit of guitar. I'm still trying my best to learn.

One time my dad asked me how many cords I knew. He suggested we should sit down and make a few recordings. That brings us to Sept. 11, 1993. I did go visit him that weekend, but sadly he had a heart attack. We did not have a chance to make those recordings. From that time on, my playing guitar waned.

Fortunately, in January 2002 I started creative writing with some recording companies in the United States. I received two certificates in recognition of distinguished achievements in creative writing from East Coast Productions and Chapel Recording Company plus Song Search U.S.A.

I've approached my community First Nations band council for assistance to pay for my songs. Unfortunately, I could not afford to pay for them, especially in U.S. currency. I am on social assistance because of health problems, and I can't do anything much to get ahead with production of my songs.

I'm wondering if any musical band around our community of the Battlefords would be interested in getting some of my songs recorded.

I can't master an instrument in time to do something about my songs alone. I'm wishing to do more on guitar, but of course it will take me a bit of time. But I could give anyone an idea of how I'd sing these songs.

I am really interested in creative writing and I will be writing more in the future. As editor of our newspaper, I am hoping you could publish examples of my work to see if anyone might want to collaborate in having them recorded.

The Dream

Last night I was thinkin' 'bout you,

Just before I called it a night.

I've never forgotten the love that I always knew

As I drifted to sleep you went out of sight.

As I was sleepin', I was dreamin' 'bout you

As we kissed 'neath a beautiful moon.

By a river as it rippled so gently through

As I awoke, from a dream that ended so soon.

Half awake, as I lay there, still thinking 'bout you,

My heart was getting heavy, I tried not to cry.

The dream was, but a dream, but how I wished it was true,

I couldn't hold it as the teardrops fell from my eyes.

The dream, forever dream, I'd still be with you

But this dream was a dream to remember you by

The dream, if not a dream, I wouldn't be with you.

For in this dream, it was the kiss, as if you kissed me goodbye.

The dream, forever dream, I'd still be with you

But this dream, was a dream to remember you by.

The dream if not a dream I would be with you

But this dream was a dream to remember you by

The dream was a dream to remember you by remember you by.
