Farmyard display enjoyed over the holiday season

The fabric of our neighbouring country, the United States, was torn apart Jan. 6. So sad to have witnessed it on television. My heart goes out to all my American friends, regardless of which political party they vote for. We would never want to see such destruction in Ottawa.

Dora and Barry Brown of Mayfair had a fantastic Christmas light display in their farmyard. An interesting scene was Santa Claus sitting in an old truck and his reindeer in full force pulling this heavy load. Multicoloured lights were hanging on many large and small trees, creating a winter wonderland. Dora led guided tours of those who called ahead to view the display.

Members of my family ventured to Tobin Lake to go ice fishing two weekends ago and report catching large fish. Species caught were northern pike, pickerel, perch, sauger and burbot, which look much like eels. Parker, our ten-year-old grandson, was in seventh heaven taking part and learning new fishing techniques.

Mayfair All Saints Catholic Church recently hosted a 10 a.m. service with the bishop performing the mass. Albert Thibodeau enjoyed seeing our small congregation as much as we enjoyed his visit. He will retire and at age 75 is waiting for a replacement.

Stay safe.
