Executive selected for MJS Community Council

The Marsden School Community Council held their annual meeting Oct. 16.

The Marsden School Community Council held their annual meeting Oct. 16. The council members are: Tracey Zweifel, chairperson; Karrie Blackbeard, vice-chair; Bev Nattress, secretary; and Stacey Jackson, Jeannie Wells, Charmaine Graham, Amanda O'Neill, Lesley Briggs and Nadine Proctor.

Contact any of the council members if you have any questions regarding the SCC or if you have any ideas to help the children have an enriched school experience. Feel free to attend any of the meetings, which are listed on the monthly school calendar.

The Grade 5 and 6 class hosted Halloween Spirit Day, Oct. 31. The students met in the library and then sent each group out to participate in the many games and activities organized by the Grade 5 and 6 students. We enjoyed decorating and eating some cookies, checked out the fortune teller, played some carnival games and braved the haunted house

Thank you to all the parents and community members for supporting the MJS annual Terry Fox barbecue and walk. The school raised $939.11 for the Terry Fox Foundation.

The Marsden Co-op and the Marsden Credit Union hosted a delicious lunch for the students of Marsden Jubilee School, Oct. 17. They donated $662.50 to the Lucas Bachman Memorial Fund.

During Library Week, each grade went to the library to sign out books, guess the candies, put their name in for a door prize and enjoy a snack. The winner of the door prize was Ashtyn LaClare. Aiden Briggs won the jar of candies with the closest guess; he only missed by one! Marjorie Nattress won the co-op gift basket.

Marsden Jubilee School and the Marsden library sponsored an author visit, Oct. 16. Shannon Wright from Vanscoy is the author of A Song to Sing. She read her story and then explained to the students how to get a book published. Thank you to the Saskatchewan Writers Guild for consuming most of the cost for the author visit. Railway Confectionery (Sheldon and Amber Benoit) purchased a copy of A Song to Sing for each of the students.

Marsden Jubilee School will be having a Remembrance Day program and lunch, Nov. 8. The Neilburg and Marsden Legion members, the seniors from the community and all parents are invited to come and join in the service. Afterwards lunch will be served to the Legion members and the seniors from the community.

The school will be holding their annual Scholastic Book Fair Nov. 16 and Nov. 20 through 23. The theme this year is Reading is out of this World. The students always look forward to this sale and, with the help of their parents, it is always a success. Students, parents and community members are welcome. The book fair is open daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and, on Nov. 21 and 22, products will be available from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Report cards will be sent home Nov. 16 with parent/teacher interviews Nov. 21 and 22.

The 2011-12 MJS yearbooks have arrived. The yearbooks are $20 each and available from the school office.

The Artland Ladies' annual Christmas bazaar was held Nov. 3 in the Marsden Community Hall. Lunch was available and many interesting items were for sale at the various stalls.

Marsden Jubilee School hosted their annual fall supper Nov. 4 in the Marsden Community Hall. Although it was a foggy evening, many folks enjoyed this event.
