Voting in the election for new reeve for the RM of Glenside took place in Biggar. Advance polls opened from 9 a.m. to noon July 20 and regular polls opened July 23. Elmer Dove from the Lizard Lake area was voted in as the new reeve.
Two new councillors were voted in: Pelmar Riley in one division and Coady Dehr for another division; and then three by acclamation.
Joanne Fullerton is the secretary for the RM of Glenside.
The RM road patrol graders have been grading all the roads as the gravelling outfit moved in to spread gravel where needed.
At last some good rains did fall in the local area but a little light for some things. The hay balers have certainly been busy as there are a lot of bales made on the hay land.
We are now slowly sliding into the harvest season. The crops seem to be in many different stages at this time. A few are going to be late. Some desiccating has started on the early crops so that means combining is not too far away. Some combining has started on the very early crops.
Those Were The Days was held Aug. 8 and 9 at the Western Development Museum in North Battleford. The volunteer groups spent the whole week prior to the event getting as many of the old tractors and stationary engines as they could going, plus other old farm machinery, and preparing the many displays and live activities. A big thank you goes out to all the busy volunteers who did so much to make the show successful for another year.
We did miss having the calliope from the Saskatoon Western Development Museum and the steam-powered music.
Following Those Were The Days was the annual North Battleford parade, the fair and the fireworks in between the rain showers.
Everyone did miss the local exhibits on display, also all the garden produce, flowers and plants. Other displays did fill in the gaps but it wasn’t the same as before. Just goes to show there is such a lack of interest. The same exhibitors had been coming for many years. You certainly are all missed.

Sympathy goes out to the Roger Leask family of rural Battleford on his recent passing.
Visiting with Phil and Lorna Bater was Kay Leech from Borden, formerly of Baljennie, and her daughter Sharron Fentuck of Saskatoon.
Another summer season has quickly passed away and the school holidays come to an end. It’s back to school time in a few days. Everyone is trying to get their school supplies together.
The big yellow school buses will once more be out on the roads, streets and highways. Take care and watch for those bus stops and flashing lights.
