If last weekend鈥檚 community Christmas kickoff, Winter Wonderland, didn鈥檛 get you in the Christmas spirit, then you will want to attend the annual carol festival this Sunday at the UCHS senior gym starting at 2 p.m. It is sure to bring out the song in your heart and the smile on your face. Local talent offer their best in Christmas music.

One of the best posts I read about how terrific this community is, followed the Winter Wonderland event when one young mom wrote, 鈥淲e had so much fun tonight with such an amazing community. We joined up several of the activities that were part of the Winter Wonderland. I am so proud to say that I live in such a great little town and I thank each and every person who helped in the Winter Wonderland to make it so magical every year!鈥 This only represents some of her post, but her exuberance and gratefulness for what is offered right in our town is a gift to the folks who organize these events. It is also a testament to just how much Unity offers its residents.

Secret Santa donations and name submissions will be collected at Wildeman Sports Excellence, Delta Co-op Food Store, Unity Ag Foods, Bargain Shop and the Unity Community Resource Centre.

How to give to your commUNITY this holiday season:

Shop for gifts at local stores. Local businesses employ local people. Strengthen your economy by supporting the local businesses. These are the businesses that sponsor, donate, volunteer at and support community events all year.

Donate to local charities and organizations in your community like the Unity Food Bank, the Unity Community Resource Centre, Unity Secret Santa, Unity Health Care Foundation and KC Rescue. All make a real difference in our town.

Volunteer with local groups, as many of them could use your energy and ideas 鈥 Unity Lions, Unity Health Care auxiliary, Unity and District Museum and the Unity Courtesy Car.

Celebrate safely and locally. Plan your family and staff parties and suppers at local establishments.

Coffee row folks just might still be talking about their chance to see Guy Lafleur and other Canadiens alumni in person right here in Unity. As well, there is no chance the incredibly mild weather, hitting 6 C on Dec. 4, is being left off their topic table. They have plenty to talk about this month with the multitude of activities taking place in the community on a regular basis. As well, local hockey and curling teams provide plenty of discussion opportunities. Winter and the weather predictions are also a staple. So, you see we keep busy in Unity with activities and wisdom from our friends on coffee row. Until next time 鈥
