Edam West 4-H Club's Achievement Day results

The Edam West 4-H Club held their Achievement Day the evening of May 31 at the Edam Community Centre. The event started with members stalling their calves at 3 p.m. and their judging demonstration and scorecards at 4:30 p.m.

The Edam West 4-H Club held their Achievement Day the evening of May 31 at the Edam Community Centre.

The event started with members stalling their calves at 3 p.m. and their judging demonstration and scorecards at 4:30 p.m. This was followed by a supper for all who attended. The members entered the ring for the introduction and 4-H pledge at 7 p.m. Judge Leah Allen, and the ring man, Leif Davidson of Maidstone, were on hand to point out the winners of the day.

The classes and winners are as follows: grooming, senior - Denzil McCaffrey, intermediate - Emily Levasseur, junior - Brady Deobald; showmanship, senior - Joel Blaquiere, intermediate - Emily Levasseur, junior - Brady Deobald; market steer, grand champion - Jared Blaquiere, reserve champion - Joel Blaquiere; yearling heifer, grand champion - Rebecca Kobes, reserve champion - Denzil McCaffrey; two-year-old cow/calf pair, grand champion - Denzil McCaffrey; best rate of gain on the steer project - Steven Ramsay; record book, senior - Jared Blaquiere, intermediate - Emily Levasseur, junior - Macey Levasseur.

In breed specials classes, the winners were: Angus steer - Jared Blaquiere; Angus heifer - Denzil McCaffrey; other breeds steer - Brandi Kobes; other breeds heifer - Rebecca Kobes.

Grand aggregate winner of the day was Denzil McCaffrey.

The club members then travelled to Lloydminster to take part in the 4-H Expo for the remainder of the weekend. At the sale, Emily Levasseur let it be known the proceeds from her calf were earmarked for the STARS air ambulance in memory of fellow member and classmate, Wyatt Malenfant, who was lost in a farm accident in March.

Congratulations to the winners and runners-up, as well as to all members on a job well-done.

The handi-van committee officially were handed the keys of the new handi-van, donated by Garry's Construction Ltd, May 21. Also taking part were representatives of Arnold's Sand and Gravel, who supplies the fuel for the van, and Levasseur Sales and Service, who supply the maintenance of the handi-van. The community is very grateful for the new van. It has made several trips already.

Students of the week catch-up time. For the week of June 6, the winners were Courtenay Fudge and Braxton Letwinetz. Reed Delainey and Ziyal Sommerfeld were the students of the week for the week of June 12. Congratulations to these four young people who are making an impact on their school.

Winners of the trip of the month draw for May were Mike and Pauline Kobes while Gilbert and Jess LaClare won the $100. Congratulations to these winners. The June draw will take place June 28 at noon at the Edam Credit Union Ltd.
