The second recital in this season's Music for the Soul series will feature a performance by two outstanding pianists.

One of series founders, pianist Jaya Hoy, says, "We're very excited about having a duo-piano recital, which hasn't happened in North Battleford for many years."

Hoy will be performing with Chris Kelly, who is well-known to North Battleford audiences as a singer, but who will be joining Hoy in duo-piano works for this visit to the community.

Kelly graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a double major in piano and voice. He also holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Western Ontario. An accompanist, coach, adjudicator, choir director and organist, Kelly is a sessional lecturer in the U of S's Department of Music and maintains a private voice and piano studio.

"We will be joined by special guest Paul Hyunbai JI, clarinet, who wowed everybody at the gala concert to open the Dekker Centre," says Hoy. "Paul has a degree in music from Seoul, Korea and has been actively involved in the music scene of North Battleford since immigrating one year ago. He plays in the NB City Kinsman Concert Band."

The concert will include music by Bach and Brahms as well as Â鶹´«Ã½AV American tango and samba style works by Piazzola and Milhaud, says Hoy.

The recital will be Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. at Third Avenue United Church. Music for the Soul, in its third season, is a series of musical performances brought about by the collaboration of Hoy and mezzo soprano performer, coach and clinician Lisa Hornung. Both enjoy international careers based out of North Battleford.
