There are several important dates to remember of upcoming events at the school. The drama and variety night has been changed from May 15 to Thursday, May 22. There will be a play and several musical numbers performed. The play is Trouble in Tumbleweed. There will also be an art show that evening. The staff will be providing desserts after the performance. The evening begins at 7 p.m. in the school gym.
Graduation will be held on Friday, May 30, in the school gym. The exercises will begin at 7:30 p.m. This year's graduating class will be Richie Acaster, Dakotah Alton, Carter Amson, Brady Ferris, Jesse Greenslade, Noah Hamp, Jordan Manson, Kcarli Maxwell, Allyson McCarthy and Braidi Sauve.
Mitch Dorge, drummer for the Crash Test Dummies, visited the school May 1 to give a presentation on substance awareness to Grades 7 to 12. We were also joined by Borden and Hafford high school students. Mitch shared a bit about the effects of drug and alcohol abuse, not only on the user, but also on those around them. He also encouraged students to pursue a career they would love to do for the rest of their lives, and gave some insight about why he is so happy in his life. Before he left he also performed a few drum solos.
The travel club is now rested and back on Canadian time. The students that went on the trip were Richie Acaster,Autumn and Carter Amson, Brady Ferris, Jan Friesen, Jesse Greenslade, Tori Hamp, Ice and Kcarli Maxwell, Frankie Menzies, Natasha Pickering, Katy Schmidt, and Katie Serhienko. The group leaders were Susan Thompson and Christine Combres. Curtis Thompson and Cathy Gillatt also went along.
The National Archery Championships were held this past weekend in Regina. The students from Maymont School did well. Conner Rothenburger was the highest scorer of the group. He shot 258 out of a possible 300. He finished the day ranked 32nd out of 287. Tyson Wawryk was the next highest with a mark of 251. He finished the day ranked 34 out of 287. Jayden Bailey was the third highest with a mark of 212.
Allison Wawyrk won the Grade 3 age group with a mark of 159. Taylor Bokluschuk finished second in the Grade 3 age group with a total mark of 121.
