Do something nice for your mom

No matter how busy you are this weekend, make sure you take time to do something special for your mom this Mother’s Day.

Long term care will be once again hosting burger sales on Fridays including May 25, June 22, July 27 and Aug. 24 as a recreation department fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Its garage sale season, including the upcoming town-wide sale. Be mindful of taking down signs after your event and consider freecycling your leftovers to Sarcan and UCRC. Please check their websites for the details on what items can be taken there.

The annual minor ball day is May 27 and will include at least one game of every division of both softball and baseball.

Plans have been drawn up for the proposed outdoor recreation complex at an estimated cost of $100,000. Project organizers are looking for donors and sponsors to make this project a reality. Check out the Town of Unity website to view the drawings with the location set for the former pool site and will include a skate park and street hockey venue amongst other things.

With strong registration numbers for the minor soccer club proposals went out for the development of a co-ed adult soccer group and interest seems high so be on the lookout for some new players on the soccer fields. For more details contact Unity Soccer Club co-ordinator Carin Leibel.

Wedding season is upon us and I hear there are a number of them upcoming this spring and summer which means this will include increased traffic and people in town so be welcoming, show them around, help them discover all the treasures Unity has to offer.

Unity Credit Union won another national marketing award at conference in Toronto.

Unity Farmers Market has resumed with the first event held yesterday. This weekly market will run every Thursday at the Adanac Hall at the museum grounds offering plenty of parking for shoppers. This market offers home made and home baked goods and there is talk of a once a month meal being added. Unity Public School Bears are looking forward to the Cut Knife Elementary Grade 6 soccer tournament May 17.

Tuesday, May 22 join the St. Peter’s Grade 6 Improv Club for an Evening of Improv. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show at 7 p.m. Intermission entertainment will beprovided by the St. Peter’s School Band. Tickets are $7 and are available at the St. Peter’s School office.

Congratulations to Press Heraldreported, Helena Long, who was successful in winning a sports photo award SWNA Better Newspapers Competition.

Coffee row folks enjoying talk of a new sports season that includes the Jays, the Riders, RUSH playoffs as well as local ball teams and upcoming ball events; with some also referring to hockey playoffs.
