Dief Days offer weekend of fun

Borden Deifenbaker Days is soon approaching and a full weekend is lined up. There is a perogy supper June 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a silent auction with proceeds to renovate the community centre.

There is a perogy supper June 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a silent auction with proceeds to renovate the community centre. June 4 there is slo-pitch, kid zone, kid's ball, cow patty bingo, a steak supper from 6 to 8 p.m. and a cabaret at the sports ground. The museum is opening at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 5, there is a pancake breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. at the sports ground, an ecumenical church service at the community centre at 11:30 a.m., ball games and the cow patty drop. Radisson Seniors' Club entertained six from Maymont and 19 from Borden for an afternoon program and cold plate supper May 19. Don and Louise Cochran and Geraldine Abbott gave a few readings and told jokes along with conducting contests. The 50/50 draw of $22 was won by Anne Palmer of Borden. Clayton and Louise Clark drew for the door prizes that went to 13 from Borden, four from Maymont and three from Radisson. Don Cochran gave the blessing and everyone enjoyed their meal with squares and ice cream for dessert. Thanking Radisson for the lovely afternoon were Kay Greenslade from Maymont and Eileen Petrun from Borden.

All of those 50 years and older are invited to the Radisson Royal Purple Day strawberry tea and program June 1 at 2 p.m. in the Radisson Hall. Royal Purple Day is always the first Wednesday in June and a time when the Royal Purple do something free of charge in the community. The Radisson OORP hosts a tea for those over 50 from surrounding towns. June 14, seniors from Radisson, Maymont and Sonningdale are invited to Borden Seniors' Club at 2:30 p.m. for an afternoon program and supper.

Condolences are extended to the Hamp family of Radisson with the passing of Alma Hamp May 14 at the age of 92. Alma was born and lived at Radisson for most of her life, except for the last few years at the Borden Care Home and the last few months at Dalmeny Spruce Manor Home. The service was conducted May 19 in the Radisson Lutheran Church by Pastor Wallace Bornhuse, with special music by Christel Lessing and Jackie Meister on the organ. Lunch was served in the church lower hall by the Lutheran Ladies.
