The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) would like to congratulate the Village of Denzil for being selected as a winner at the 17th edition of the Communities in Bloom national awards ceremony, which took place Oct. 29 in Quebec.

The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) would like to congratulate the Village of Denzil for being selected as a winner at the 17th edition of the Communities in Bloom national awards ceremony, which took place Oct. 29 in Quebec. Communities in Bloom recognizes civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement and the promotion of green spaces in community settings.

The village received a first place award in the Up to 1,500 population category. The community of Denzil now joins a celebrated list of honoured municipalities - from Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, the United States of America and Japan - that received accolades for their efforts in providing an improved quality of life through sustainable community development initiatives.

"The Communities in Bloom program has made a huge impact on the Village of Denzil," said Cathy Stang, chair of the Denzil Communities in Bloom committee. "Communities in Bloom has brought people of all ages together towards a common goal of beautifying the village and increasing the quality of life of the entire community. The program has been instrumental in raising environmental awareness and strengthening community pride."

"We are very pleased to have our hard work and dedication to our community recognized at this level of competition and I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all my committee members, volunteers and our caretaker, Darrell Witzaney," added Stang.

"As the provincial co-ordinator of the Communities in Bloom initiative in Saskatchewan, SPRA is very pleased to have a Saskatchewan community receive this national honour," said Darrell Lessmeister, SPRA President. "Denzil's dedication to the Communities in Bloom program exemplifies their commitment to community beautification, environmental sustainability and, most importantly, to the quality of life of their community."
