Decorating eggs a fun thing to do at Easter

When I was younger, and even now, I love to decorate Easter eggs. It is one of the most fun things about Easter.

Ruddell's cenotaph was erected in 1926 as a memorial to men who gave their lives in the First World War.

When I was younger, and even now, I love to decorate Easter eggs. It is one of the most fun things about Easter. Grade school age children are old enough to really participate in decorating Easter eggs, whether it's dipping eggs in dye, painting on fun designs or gluing on whiskers and ears to make colorful Easter egg creatures. There are an endless number of options when it comes to decorating Easter eggs, and kids can let their imaginations lead their creativity.

It means so much at Easter time / to keep in touch with friends / to wish them happiness and cheer / and joy that never ends. This brings heartfelt greetings / especially for you / together with best wishes / for a happy springtime too. Happy Easter to you and yours.

The Ruddell potluck supper was cancelled due to the weather, as was Sonningdale's supper.

Just a little information about Ruddell taken from Sod to Solar. I found it very interesting reading.

"When one turns off Highway 16 at the sign that reads Ruddell 'No Services' and enters this quiet village it is hard to imagine the bustling activity of by gone years. This is the village that now has only one post office [no more] and a handful of residents. This is the village that at one time had four general stores, blacksmith shop, butcher shop, school, Hotel, barbershop, bank, poolroom, two livery stables, three elevators, three implement agencies, bakery, a church, a doctor, and a veterinarian [hard to believe]. The Canadian Northern Railway Company first named this station Lucerne and it was later changed to Ruddell. No one seems to know why the change was made or whom the village was named for. The cenotaph was erected in 1926. This was a memorial to those men who gave their lives in the First World War. It was unveiled in November 1926 by Mr. Dow. The band came down from North Battleford and an honour guard of Ruddell and Lilac district veterans were in attendance."

There is much more to read but way too much to print so I will close with this. "People have come and gone during the years with hopes for the future. There may be few residents but the community spirit is still alive." I believe Ruddell is now classified as a hamlet.

I had a discussion with Pastor Sheldon about snow, Sunday, and why we should pray that it soon stops. I said travelling this year back and forth from Maymont has been quite the challenge for me as I dislike driving at the best of times. He said our snow could help someone - those weren't his exact words - but I could see it was true because, as we drove through North Battleford, we saw snow being removed from parking lots and tow trucks hauling stalled vehicles. We also have to think about those selling snowmobiles. Last year was a terrible year for them. I can't quote exactly what Pastor Sheldon said but I guess he's right in a way.

Someone said snow can sometimes distract many people from the love of snow. Snow is very lovely and beautiful. Snow is more fun for kids, of course. Without snow, how could we skate, ski, sled, have snowball fights and build snowmen? Snow also makes even ugly places look temporarily beautiful. Of course snow causes accidents on the roads but, for us who travel on these roads, some people don't know what "drive to road conditions" means. I have seen it several times in my travels; there are some who travel way too fast for road conditions. Drive safe on our highway until our snow leaves.
