Daysville School marked with commemorative sign

It's time to get things caught up as I have been busy and away for most of the summer. Congratulations to the May trip of the month winner, Sandra Clarke and Terrell and Leah Cole who won $100.00.

Congratulations to the May trip of the month winner, Sandra Clarke and Terrell and Leah Cole who won $100.00. June trip of the month winners were Brian and Heather McCaffrey and George and Louise Blais of Paynton won $100. July winners this year are Dwaine Long of Macklin, and Brad and Brandy Cole won $100. So far this fundraiser has raised $75 000 in the last five years.

July 29 there was a sign dedication at the Daysville School site. The sign was constructed by Old Man Ironworks. The afternoon started with Allan Macnab welcoming all in attendance. He also thanked those who were instrumental in the project. Donations were taken in at the Macnab family reunion as well as from former students to finance the project. Former students in attendance were Allan Macnab, Charlie Macnab, Jean (Macnab) Bue, Marion (Monteith) McNinch, Hugh Monteith, Bob Monteith, Bill Monteith, Dora (Burgess) Greening, Bob Burgess, Albert Morin, Florian Morin, Louise (Morin) Macnab, Wes Elliott, Dennis Elliott, Cora (Sandwick) McNinch, Irene (Sandwick) Jones, Oliver Sandwick, Cecilia (Potter) Rolin, Tom Stewart, Elsie (Ottas) Monteith, Lorraine (Ottas) Otteson, Bill Williamson. Jean Bue was also a teacher at the school once she graduated teachers' college. There is also an interest in tinning the roof of the old school. For further information you can contact Elsie (Bob) Monteith.

Also in the Mervin news (this is my hometown), the history book Mervin Memories is going to be reprinted with additions to bring the local history up to date. If your family has a story in the previous edition, you are asked to update and send to the committee. They are also going to include any new families that have moved into the area since the publication of the last book. Anyone interested in assisting with editing, proof reading, and collecting stories is invited to attend the next committee meeting Sept. 5. For further information contact Noreen Williamson.

A baby shower was held Aug. 2 at the home of Gilbert and Jessica LaClare to welcome their daughter Juliette Lynn who arrived July 3. Also welcoming Juliette were grandparents Maurice and Diane LaClare of Edam and Carolyn and David Weger of Saskatoon. Juliette was not the only grandchild for the LaClares in July. They also welcomed Beau Beckham LaCLare, son of Joey and Katie LaClare and William Mark Johann Wallis, son of Renee and Mark Wallis.

The "Who am I" monologues DVD is available for purchase at the Edam Post Office. The cost is $10 and the proceeds are earmarked for the Edam Community Centre. The DVD is approximately 45 minutes in length, so if you missed them during the centennial celebration, you can still enjoy.

Well, that is it for this time. The summer hasn't been all that busy since the centennial celebration, but with school starting Tuesday, we are sure to get busier.
