Between a curling bonspiel and a hockey tournament, the Saskcan Community Centre was a busy place the weekend of Jan. 12. The annual men's and women's joint curling bonspiel spilled over three days and the curling rink was abuzz with activity. The stands filled with spectators; family and friends and even players on their down time, watching the activity.

Country Ford sponsored the $1,000 "draw to the button" contest. Carol Basler and Maretta Glessing shared the win. Men's winners: Brian Volk (A event), Mike McKenzie (B event) and Lorne Hofer (C event). Women's winners: Mallory Scott (A event), Terri Sittler (B event) and Lori Cey (C event). The event was wrapped up with a banquet at the community hall, in which organizers were really pleased with the turnout.

The Wilkie Atom Outlaws held their hockey tournament Jan. 12. Parents started arriving at the rink by 8:30 a.m. with their hockey players and the day started quickly and ran smoothly into the evening.

With many jobs at hand, from manning the prize table, running 50/50 draws or the running of the clock, all of the Wilkie Atom parents pitched in to create a memorable event.

Teams came from Unity, North Battleford and Rosetown to participate in the tournament. The events success was due to the volunteers who kept things running smoothly and a long list of businesses who sponsored the tournament.
