Culture Days, a collaborative, coast-to-coast volunteer movement to raise the awareness accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in the Arts and Cultural Life of their communities, is fast approaching.

First organized in Quebec, Culture Days have expanded into a Canada-wide, community-based weekend to celebrate culture and organize free public activities. The third annual event will take place Sept. 28, 29 and 30 with thousands of free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to discover the world of creative people in their communities.

Saskatchewan has a multitude of events across the province in communities big and small. The Battlefords alone will have a total of four events. The WDM will host "Celebrating Saskatchewan" with ethnic dancers, rope-making demonstrations and artists at work knitting and spinning Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Also on Friday, the Chapel Gallery will host an event to meet the artists behind Waterworks, currently showing at the gallery. From 2 to 4 p.m., participants will be able to meet the artists behind the exhibit.

Another event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at McKitrick School. Called Explore, Experiment, Experience, it will see three guests joining the school to lead visual art and song writing workshops.

On Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., the Chapel Gallery will host "Colour Me Artful: Family Open Studio." Participants are invited to bring their family down to the Chapel Gallery and join Crystal Chvala in making their own paper lantern for use on water or indoors.

These are only a fraction of the total number of events planned across the province, and more events may be added after the newspaper goes to press. To find the most up-to-date information, of for information on events in other communities, visit www.culturedays.ca.
