The John Paul II Crusaders football program has attracted about 50 players this season.

With the John Paul II Crusader's second season of football approaching, students and staff at John Paul II Collegiate are fired up and ready to cheer!

This season, the football team is allowing Grade 8 players to join the program. John Paul II is trying to develop a junior football team that would be mostly made up of Grade 8 and 9 students.

"We hope to have these players gain experience in exhibition games and in the fifth quarters of our league games," said coach Bruce Yockey.

Players are eligible to play high school football starting in Grade 9 and ending in Grade 12. The Grade 8 students are not eligible to play in the team's regular games.

This season, with the juniors included, the John Paul II Crusaders has 45-50 players practicing and playing.

"Our goal this year is to make it to playoffs. Anything beyond that will be a bonus," said Yockey.

In the exhibition of mini games, The Crusaders were defeated by Delisle. The final score was 20-0. The Crusaders won their second game against Kindersley 28-7.

"Our juniors also played Kindersley and were able to beat them quite handily," said Yockey.

"It was a great way to kick off the season and get all of our players involved in in-game situation before the regular season started."
