During the holiday season, John Paul II Collegiate is bursting at the seams with creative activities for the students and staff to participate in.
From charity door decorating competitions to Christmas Mass, it seems as though there is always something to do.
"I hope each of you [the students] are able to spend time with family and friends this Christmas season, and I wish you peace, happiness and good health for the New Year. May God bless each of you," said Carlo Hansen, John Paul II principal.
Some of the activities John Paul II students and staff are participating in are collecting food for a local food bank, an advent mass, selling peppermint cake to raise money for the mission team, and donating gifts to the less fortunate. The school is also having a Christmas talent show for the students to perform in. The Christmas Talent show will feature many acts performed by students, including dancing, singing, and a skit by John Paul II's SADD group about safe driving over the holidays. The skit involves a drinking and driving accident, and shows the aftermath of making the decision to drive.
John Paul II's SADD group would like everyone to practice safe, sober driving over the holidays. During the holiday season, drinking and driving is a major issue, and SADD has been trying to raise awareness of the problem. The group went to grocery stores around town and tied awareness ribbons to car antennas and door handles to send the message of safety around.
Multiple other Christmas activities have gone on, such as a turkey lunch made by the Alternate Education Program and the Functional Integrated Program. All staff members were invited to join the students who cooked for a delicious lunch. Another activity that went on was a holiday door decorating competition, which Roxanne Anthony's homeroom won.
Overall, the Christmas season has been busy, but fun filled for John Paul II students and staff.
