Couple married 65 years laid to rest together

Condolences to the family of Betty Ferris, whose memorial service was held July 6 in Radisson Lutheran Church, with Leo Monselor of Maymont United Church officiating and Valerie Gray playing the piano.

Condolences to the family of Betty Ferris, whose memorial service was held July 6 in Radisson Lutheran Church, with Leo Monselor of Maymont United Church officiating and Valerie Gray playing the piano. The readings, eulogy and musical tribute were all done by family members. Lunch was served in the lower hall following the service.

Betty had passed away May 29 at Stensrud Lodge at the age of 88 years and her husband Cecil April 9 at the age of 100 years, after celebrating 65 years of marriage in 2012. They were both laid to rest in the Fielding Cemetery the morning of July 6.

Crown Hill 4-H Beef Club did well in the first two days of the 2013 Junior Ag Showcase at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon July 6 - 8.

Some of the members entered the Junior Showcase of Art. In Cloverbuds, Hunter Reid was third in coloured medium, first in crafts, first in woodworking and fifth in string art; Chyanne Roth placed first in sewing with her quilt, second in crafts and third in woodworking; Boden Letkeman was second in woodworking and third in string art.

In juniors, Cole Reid had a second in pencil art, first and fourth in wooden framed photo and fifth in string art; Abigail Roth was first with her sewing; Cody Shumanski was third in woodworking.

In the judging competition July 6, Rachel Sutherland was first in juniors and Courtney Yaseniuk was ninth. In intermediates Kolten Yaseniuk was first and in seniors Duncan Sutherland was fourth.

In the team grooming, the Crown Hill junior team of Rachel, Cole Reid and Justin Yaseniuk placed second and the Crown Hill intermediate team of Brittany Attrux, Kolten Yaseniuk and Duncan Sutherland placed fourth.

The morning of July 7, 15 members competed in showmanship classes but Cole Reid was the only one asked to come back in. Supreme showman went to Shaelynn Evans of Hanley 4-H.

In the beef heifer showcase July 7, Rachel had the champion heifer in other breeds and in commercial yearling heifer A class. Duncan placed fifth, Cody Shumanski 10th and Abigail Roth 12th. In the B class, Anna Verbonac placed fifth. Cassidy Serhienko of Maymont, with the Saskatoon 4-H Beef Club, had the champion Simmental heifer and the champion commercial heifer was shown by Katie Serhienko of Maymont, also with Saskatoon 4-H Beef. Her heifer went on to win grand champion yearling heifer overall.

The finished beef show during the day and evening sale were to take place July 8, with Crown Hill selling last.
