Denise Taylor (nee Wolberg), farmer and greenhouse owner from Hafford, was in Mayfair Tuesday with a large assortment of bedding plants and well-established perennials. Her plants are very hardy and thrive well if the buyers take care of them. Denise has been in business for 12 years and takes great pride in this venture.

Debbie Stewart from near Alticane brings fresh farm eggs to Mayfair once a week. You can order the eggs by calling her at 306-246-2055.

A bridal shower was held in honour of Desiree Mischuk, daughter of Dave and Maryann, at their home May 30. Many guests were in attendance, with an array of food and refreshments following the opening of gifts. The younger women were planning a "pub crawl" in Saskatoon for the evening.

At times parents had to travel a distance to be in attendance at their child's convocation and this was no exception for Kolin and Cheryl Bulmer. Becky has successfully completed her course in Communications Disorder Program with a Bachelor of Science degree. Cheryl had five members of the Tady family attending 鈥 Becky's sister Jaycee, Becky's fianc茅 with Daniel's parents, Joanne and Andy Bezmutta from Hafford. In the class of 17 students, in Minot, N.D., only one was an American citizen.

Spring is always a busy time for children in track and field, ball, soccer and other sports. My four- and-half-year-old grandson participates in learning how to play softball, soccer and he and his younger siblings also take swimming lessons. Parker and Keri also do gymnastics at Battlefords Gymnastics Club.

Olga Woloshyn celebrated her 86th birthday May 31 with her family of four sons, wives and of course most grandchildren and three great-grandchildren with a nice visit with much laughter, chatter and food. This celebration was held at her North Battleford residence in the yard, with supper ordered from a restaurant and just finished in time before a torrential rainstorm.

Flora Ratt rrom La Ronge, sister to Sally Salisbury of Mullingar, has been visiting and aiding with household chores. She comes frequently and also likes to see Sally's friends.

The RM of Meeting Lake would like to remind everyone that the local garbage dump is for Meeting Lake taxpayers only. Everyone living in their designated RMs are to dispose of their garbage at the correct dump site. At this time of the year with spring clean up there is always a surplus of litter, including unused household items. Some of the unused items can be of use to other people, so why not post signs on Mayfair's bulletin board to "give away?鈥 Remember the saying, "One man's junk is another man's treasure". This month's meeting is scheduled for June 11 at the RM office.

Leslie Wong from Edmonton and Rick Adam from Saskatoon and Mullingar (during farming seasons) hosted a 65th birthday gathering for their mother, Margaret Adam from Mayfair community. Family and friends joined them at David Laird Campsite, east of North Battleford May 30. The weather co-operated for the occasion, while the younger ones played on the playground equipment and soccer pitch. A barbecue supper of hamburgers, hot dogs and many other goodies was appropriate for the outdoor event. Margaret had to wear the gag gifts that were selectively purchased for her. It was an afternoon of fun enjoyed by guests hailing from Allan, Saskatoon, Lloydminster, Edmonton and southern Saskatchewan.

After a few nights of hard frost, farmers are forced to re-seed some of the earlier crops. We had ice from the frost May 28 as the temperature dipped down to -3 C.

Another young lady who was a student at Mayfair School for a few years completed a four-year course at Regina University with a registered nursing degree. Ariana Ewanchuk, daughter of Eunice (North Battleford) and Raymond from Whitkow and Regina, had her graduation June 4. Stella and Walter Ewanchuk are her grandparents, retired farmers from Whitkow. Ariana is employed at Moose Jaw's hospital.

Another busy grandma is Shirley Lamontagne who tries to attend as many of her granddaughters鈥 functions as possible. Her son, Richard who owns the road maintenance equipment in our area, and wife Pam have daughters who are active in many sports, including hockey, softball and track and field.

Tournaments take them to various places. Shirley also tries to engage in her great-grandchildren's activities. They are Abbey and Jacob and their parents are Amy and Mike Fendelet from Hafford.

In last week's column, the 100th anniversary homecoming in Speers had a typing error. The pancake breakfast and registration July 18 is $10. The homecoming committee members are hoping readers knew that $1 was too good to be true.

Can you imagine your child at 11 years old leaving home to attend Harvard University? This is reality for one child's parents in the United States, as this "genius" can't wait to connect to other brains thinking on the same intellectual interests. Most geniuses are born to ordinary people with an average IQ level. I wonder if genius children miss out on the every day play activities that most others in the same age engage in?

As a parent, I would not want my young child, at age 11, to live hundreds, if not thousands of miles from me.
