It's in its third year.

The concert series organized by Lisa Hornung and Jaya Hoy, who both grew up in North Battleford and have enjoyed international musical careers, starts its third season Sunday, Sept. 16.

The opening concert of Music for the Soul will feature mezzo soprano Hornung, Adam Streisel on trumpet and Mark Turner on piano.

"It promises to be an exciting concert with something for everyone," says Hornung. "The program includes Baroque, Romantic, French and Spanish music as well as Irish and English folk songs and Negro Spirituals."

This will be Streisel's third appearance as a performer in the Music for the Soul series. In the first two appearances by the North Battleford Comprehensive High School music/band teacher, he captured the musical hearts of his audience with his skill and sense of humour.

Tuner has performed extensively across Canada and is in demand as a collaborative pianist. He is currently the president of the Saskatoon Registered Music Teachers Association, and is the co-artistic director of Saskatoon Youth Music Theatre. He brings his passion for music and his sense of humour to his private piano studio in Saskatoon,

"Jaya and I very happy with the upcoming year that includes concerts with a trumpeter, duo-piano team, violist and a jazz pianist," says Hornung.

The two artists have used their contacts as professionals to bring international level artists to the Battlefords.

The opening concert of this season begins at 7 p.m. at the Third Avenue United Church in North Battleford.

"Because we live in 'lake country' and want to enjoy all the moments of sunshine possible, the concert on the 16th of September will be at 7 p.m.," says Hornung. "We will return to our usual 3 p.m. concert time in October."

The dates of the next two concerts are Oct. 28 and Dec. 9
