Karpluk family members, Helen Specht of Delta, B.C., Ann Smith of New Westminster, B.C. and Wally Karpluk of Rocky Mountain House, Alta., have spent a few weeks visiting Jim Karpluk at the family home in Waseca. While here they had many friends visiting. Ann and Helen left for their homes Aug. 27 and will visit various places on the way. Wally is staying on for a while longer.

Sandra and Crystal Sutherland along with Sandra's sister, Grace Flewell of Red Deer, Alta., Kenneth and Carol Sutherland, Mark and Morgan Thomarat, Curtis Sutherland and Felicia all travelled to Gibson's, B.C. where they attended the wedding of Christopher Sutherland, son of Bruce and Sheila Sutherland, to Hailey Baker Aug. 25. It was a beautiful, sunshiny day for the wedding, which took place on the ocean front and was followed by an outdoor reception in Bruce and Sheila's yard. The wedding and the setting for the reception were both described as "beautiful."

On the day following the wedding, the travellers all began a sightseeing tour. Sandra, Grace, Crystal, Kenneth and Carol travelled to Vancouver Island enjoying the many sights there and returned home by a different route, as did the other travelers.

Farmers' markets are being held in Waseca Sept. 8 and 22. The Sept. 22 market, as well as hosting local people with tables featuring a variety of goods, will have a table featuring Tupperware and one table featuring the Saskatoon Berry Farm. Also, Prairie Wild Consulting will be displaying an official plan for the future of the village. The consultant will be pleased to answer questions and is looking forward to seeing interested people.

More perennials have been donated to Waseca Communities in Bloom and there are more yet to come. The ones that have arrived have been planted and beds have been made ready for the plants that are yet to come. Thank you so much, everyone.

Lindsay Donovan of Saskatoon spent the long weekend with her parents, Renee and Morris Donovan.

The death of Thomas Kitching this week broke another link with the past. Thomas was born at Winter in 1916. After completing his education at Point Lake, a rural school, Thomas worked for farmers until buying his first farm at Baldwinton. He and his wife, Audrey, moved several times - in 1943 to the East Manitou district, in 1946 to the Lilydale district and 1951 to a farm south of Waseca.

Thomas had many interests besides farming. One of his interests was raising horses and he spent time racing his horses at varous places.

A good neighbour who enjoyed taking part in community events and visiting with neighbours, Thomas will be missed by all. Among those who will miss him most are his wife Audrey, his daughter Katherina and husband Mern Key and their children and grandchildren as well as other relatives. Our sympathy is extended to all as well as to the many friends and neighbours.

This week school begins for another year of study and school activities. Best wishes to all for a happy and fruitful year.
