Hi, everyone! Here it is February already. January seems to have just whizzed by. Except for a few days of slippery weather, we were so fortunate to have had such a nice month. Usually January is one of our longest and coldest, so we’ve been lucky.
There is not much news this time, folks, as many of our tenants have had colds and flus – me included – so are sticking pretty close to home.
However, Ada Passuta celebrated her 90th recently. Her family took her dining at Blend to celebrate. I'm sure you had a wonderful time, Ada, and happy 90th birthday.
Cecile Dupuis was happy to attend her son’s wedding in Cut Knife. It also was made special to have her other son and his wife there from British Columbia. I’m sure you all had a lovely time, Cecile.
Shirley Tebay was glad to be at her great-grandson's first birthday party at the fieldhouse. I can imagine it would be a fun time for everyone, Shirley.
Mary Dearborn missed her Christmas news last month so here it is now. She went to the farm to spend Dec. 24 with her son and daughter-in-law, Blair, Anna and family. Also present were their daughter Alissa, her husband Vince and two-year-old Maia from Lethbridge, Alta. Also Blair and Anna’s son Brennan and girlfriend Jade were home from Esterhazy. Mary said they all enjoyed Anna’s wonderful supper.
On Christmas Day, Mary’s daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Wayne Combes from Richard, picked her up to go to their daughter and son-in-law’s, Kim and Tyler Voegeli at Maymont for Christmas supper. Their family was all home – Kurt, Carrie and Kyre Combres, Joel and Taylor Stelzer, all from Humboldt, as well as Kyle and Jenn, Kara, Logan and Jaxon Combre from Maymont. Of course Kim and Tyler’s three daughters, Makenna, Rylan and Emmerson, and Tyler’s sister Leah and husband Tim from Spiritwood also came. Mary says she had a wonderful day. It sounds like you have a lovely family too, Mary.
We all enjoyed a game of Kaiser bingo in the lounge Jan. 8. Win or lose, we always have a good time. Kaiser is played every Tuesday evening, organized by Shirley Tebay. Some winners were: first, Anne Ewanchuk; second, Betty Bonson; and third, Louise Haubold. Another Tuesday, the winners were: first, Shirley Tebay; second, Louise Haubold; and third, Betty Bonson.
Some other entertainment that we’ve had was Jan. 15. Laura Montgrant, a tenant from our Tower, favoured us with songs on the keyboard. Then we all had a nice social visit over coffee and lunch. Jan. 29, we all enjoyed John Archer and friends playing on guitars and singing some of our old favourites. In between, Jan. 22, many of us sat down in the lounge to some delicious Kentucky Fried Chicken. It's so great to enjoy somebody else’s food for a change.
Once again, Ann Ewanchuk became a great-great-grand-baba to a little girl, Edison Elizabeth Russell. Parents are Taylor and Paul Russell, grandparents are Roman and Liz Ewanchuk. The Russells live in Brandon, Man.
Jim Shevchuk’s wife Sandra and children carolled at Ann’s apartment for Ukrainian Christmas. They drove Ann with them carolling at River Heights Lodge and the homes of their church neighbours.
Ann has lost a wonderful cousin, Annie Bartkewich, who resided at Davidson Manor.
Her grandson Nicholas Ewanchuk, Carrie and little girls Callie and Harley had dinner with Ann.
Ann is in charge of whist in Tower II. The winners were, on Jan. 14, Shirley Tebay, Louise Haubold and Genny Craig; and on Jan. 21, Louise Haubold, Ann Ewanchuk and Genny Craig.
Ann misses her little friend Bep Wyatt, who moved for a respite to regional care, as well as her friend Tracey Rosner who went by ambulance to the Royal University Hospital.
Ann’s daughter Erinka, son-in-law Rory Jordan and her son Orest and daughter-in-law Chris Ewanchuk just returned from a 10-day holiday in Mexico.
Get well wishes go out to all those who are still recovering from flu and colds, and also to Tracy Rasner who is in the hospital in Saskatoon. Hope you will soon be well again. We are missing Bep Wyatt too who is over at district care now. Hope you will soon be back here again, Bep. We are also thinking of George Milnthorp, who has been on the sick list for some time now. Hope we will soon see you down for coffee again, George.
I’ll have another report at the end of February, so happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
