You hear of odd things happening to break the world records in the Guiness Book of World Records. Here is one close to home that we got to see in Dalmeny Oct.6, and believe me, it was something to see and hear when 249 combines gathered to combine two sections of swathed grain in seven minutes. It was over a mile drive down the row of all the lined up combines ready to go. The combines were green, yellow, orange, silver and red. It was amazing to see new and the older combines all in one area, all sitting ready for the 2 p.m. signal to start combining the swath in front of them.

Many of the John Deere combines carried the red and white Canada flags waving in the wind. Other combines had various other flags. The roar was loud and the dust and chaff thick in the air, but was quickly carried away from the area by a strong northwest wind. There was a good interest as the large parking lot was full. People had come from a large area and distance to watch the activities.

It was an all around harvesting day and there was an old threshing machine working and bundles being hauled with teams of horses to be thrashed. There was other antique machinery on display and many activities to keep the children all happy and busy. There was a concession booth and a donation booth to the World Children's Food Bank.
