Cold doesn't deter residents from travel, activities

Hi there! Well here we are into February already. January certainly had its up and downs weather wise, but we should be thankful that we didn't get the bad storms plaguing the eastern part of the country.

Hi there! Well here we are into February already. January certainly had its up and downs weather wise, but we should be thankful that we didn't get the bad storms plaguing the eastern part of the country. Now I think we are all looking forward to an early spring eh folks?

In spite of the cold there are still some of the tenants getting around or having company.

Barb Foot and her sister travelled to Castlegar, B.C. for her brother-in-law's funeral. We convey all our sympathy to you and your family, Barb.

Kay Greenslade (one of our new tenants) went to Maymont recently to help celebrate Tom Caldwell's 89th birthday. That's a birthday worth celebrating, Kay.

Dec. 27 was a special day for Fae Derkach. Dinner guests were son Blair, his wife Laurie and children Erin, Amy and Adam, North Battleford, daughter-in-law Jennifer Letrud and her daughters Ingrid from Dijon, France, also Astryd and friend Cedric from Strasbourg, France. This is the first Christmas back in Canada for 16 years. Fae's son Cameron could not be here as he is working on an oil platform off the coast of Angola.

Mary Birch was so happy to have her great-granddaughter Abby visit her from Cut Knife recently. Bet you had a nice visit, Mary.

I didn't get Ann Ewanchuk's report for December so here is her news now.

She attended Christmas Eve at Ray and Doris Jordan's. Next evening there was supper with daughter Erinka and Rory. Boxing Day was a fondue at Scott and Danielle Scherger's. So much food and fun with all of her family present.

Following this Ann attended Roman and Liz's family meal where all children and grandchildren were present. Roman's brother was there from Ft. St. John, B.C., too.

Ann's daughter had a perogy bee one day at her house. It was a good time working with Roxanne and Larissa as well. For Ukrainian Christmas Ann went to the Holy Supper in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church basement. There were many new Canadians from Ukraine attending too.

You can see Ann is a busy person. She not only organizes the Whist here, but keeps active by swimming exercises several times a week at the pool.

The birthday party for January, February and March was celebrated Jan. 20. Congratulations and best wishes go to Shelly Barcheldor, Orville Fehr, Ida Baker, Shirley Tebay, Joan Blixrud, Mary Dearborn, Laurine Wohlberg, Eleanor Matthews, Mary Birch and Hilda Andres.

We were very glad to have Russell Lahti entertain us on keyboard and singing. The songs he sang were the 'oldies' that we all enjoy.

We also enjoy having the Lowens here to entertain us. Their singing and playing are just the right kind of music for us seniors.

As I said before we always like our food here in the high rise.

We had a delicious lunch of soup, hot dogs and dessert here recently. Thanks to Ida Baker, Bob Sarrasvin and helpers. Then Kentucky Fried Chicken was ordered in, which is a nice change. The social part of it is enjoyable, too.

Second to None always bring us such wonderful and tasty food. They are well known in our area so I'm sure you will all agree. Their meals are second to none.

Get well wishes go out to Dave Gregory and Albert Friebel, who are in the hospital. Hope they both will soon be better and able to come home again. Also our thoughts of well being to those who are recuperating from flu or other ailments.

Welcome to all our newcomers. There have been quite a few that have moved in recently. There is coffee in the lounge every day, so please come down and become acquainted.

If you have to go out, please be careful as it's very slippery.
