Co-op employee earns award

Diane Verishine, employee at Borden Co-op, was presented with a 15-year gold/diamond ring and certificate of service recognition by Rod Roenspies, chair of Borden Co-op Board June 21.

Borden United Church held its last service June 26, before a two-month break, with Joyce Salie presiding. Services resume in the church Sept. 4. The church board is meeting with St. John Anglican Church during the summer with possible amalgamation by the winter months. The United Church is holding a barbecue Wednesday, July 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. beside the Borden Fire Hall. July 17, Maymont Sharon United Church will be celebrating their 100th anniversary at an 11 a.m. service with lunch and program to follow.

Congratulations to new grandparents Graham and Gloria Derbowka of Borden and Bob and Bev Burletoff of Blaine Lake, with the birth of Berkly Blake, June 15 to Blake and Tara Buletoff of Borden. He is a new brother for Bently and Boh. Congratulations also to Wendell and Judy Dyck of Borden with the birth of Anne Victoria June 13 to Curtis and Elizabeth Torrens of Borden. She is a sister for Ryley. Welcomed to Borden area are Harrison and Jessica Urbina at Aspen Acres West and Russell Orchard and Winnie Sware on 2nd Avenue East.

A bridal shower was held June 26 in the Borden Friendship Centre for Lindsay Wiebe, daughter of Darrell and Kathy Wiebe of Borden, who is marrying Devin Schulz in July. Shari Nickel introduced the head table - Lindsay, her mom Kathy Wiebe, Devin's mom Martha Schultz and bridesmaids Raquel Nickel and Katie Pauls. A few humorous stories about Lindsay were related by Carol Crabb and Elise Meister, Shari thanked everyone for coming and wished the couple all the best then presented the gifts, which were opened and passed around for everyone to see. Lindsay graciously thanked everyone. Lunch with coffee or iced tea was set out for all to enjoy.
