The Borden United Church held their annual meeting the afternoon of Jan. 28 after the regular church service. Reports were heard from Chair Sandra Long, minister Gayle Wensley, secretary-treasurer Lorraine Olinyk and ministry and personnel committee Pamela Pidwerbesky and Helen Sutherland. On the board with Sandra and Lorraine are Jean Brooke, Jean Sawchyn, Gloria Derbowka and Pamela. It was decided the church would again serve hamburgers and hot dogs at the Borden Farmers’ Market this year. The church, with the Anglicans, will host the Shrove Tuesday Pancake/Sausage supper on Feb. 13 in the Borden Seniors Room from 5 to 6:30 p.m. There will be a St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon on Friday, March 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., serving stew and soup along with bread, sweets and beverages. Celtic Country will provide Irish music. The United Church hosts a Good Friday service with the Anglican members on March 30 at 11 a.m., with lunch to follow.

Jonny Harris and his crew from CBC and Still Standing Show put on a great Still Standing comedy performance on Jan. 26 in the Borden Community Centre for nearly 200 people, culminating a week of filming in the Town of Radisson. The backdrop on the stage was a map of Canada with twinkling lights criss-crossing across Canada showing where they have filmed and mini lights were strung all around the hall. Jonny had interviewed and filmed many in Radisson including Don and Roberta Harris in regards to the Communiplex, hockey game at the arena and free supper provided by Sunridge RV, 13-year-old Judah Tyreman and his Gem and Rock Shop, Gertrude and Kim Maxwell and love of small towns, Walter Kyliuk, former mayor and fiddle player, Lily and Jean ballroom dancing in Lily’s Cafe in Radisson, Martha Lessing and her history of Radisson and Laura and Inga from La Petit Salon. Then he took all of this info and toasted everyone he had spoken to, highlighting how Radisson had raised the funds for the Communiplex, the story of the bear sculpture by the Town Office, getting a haircut and waxing at the salon, trying to ballroom dance and many more humorous incidents that happened during the past week. After the show, Jonny posed for photos with the public and handed out autographed photos of himself.
