Thanks were extended to the decorating and entertainment committees and to the caterers for an excellent evening.
Radisson Royal Purple held their Christmas tea, bake sale and raffles in Radisson Hall Dec. 14. Due to the cold and blustery day, Santa dropped in at the Radisson Hall basement and handed out candy bags to all the children, courtesy of the Radisson volunteer firefighters.
Upstairs over 70 adults and many children were enjoying strawberry shortcake with their beverages. Besides three long tables of baking, there were ladies selling crafts or assorted items - Joyce Schultz, Fern Stephens, Mary Werezak, Audrey Baker, Christine Bodnaruk and Sandi Bader.
Winning door prizes were adults Myrtle Amson, Dave Summers, Susan Rothenburger, Grace Schensney, Margaret Hamp and Sherri Rempel and, for the children, Paige Harris, Kirsten Bodnaruk and Ineke Schensney. The OORP grocery hamper was won by Glenn Peterson. The ham donated by L. Olinyk went to Darlene Malysh, oranges donated by L. Olinyk to Jasmyn Harris, chocolates donated by Kay Shipowich to Terry King and two cookbooks went to Jean Sawchyn and Nikki Friesen.
Three other raffle items, donated by Lorraine, Bev Assman and Shirley Jacobsen, went to: Jean Hryniuk - bath basket; Michelle Nelson - cookbook, oven mitt and chocolate; and Leona Bennett - flower wheel, cookies in a jar and chocolates. The Borden Riverbend Fellowship and Borden United churches held their annual potluck supper and Christmas program in the Borden Community Centre Dec. 15, with over 100 out to enjoy the evening.
For the program, the older students did a skit, What do You Think of Christmas?, using the Family Feud format with one side being Santa and the other side Joseph and Mary. Pam Pidwerbesky and Gayle Wensley sang O Beautiful Star of Bethlehem and led carol singing. The Adventure Club children had a skit titled Bethlehem Network News where the shepherds were looking for the baby Jesus.
The final play, This Baby, was pantomimed and showed Mary and the baby Jesus, then Jesus as a youngster, growing up and helping people and spreading the Good Word. In between each scene, the angels came out and did a ballet number, and everything was acted out to the title song.
Darrel Wiebe handed out candy bags to all the children and some adults and everyone could take a Christmas orange as they left.
