There were many Christmas themed events going on last week. The Red Hat ladies outdid themselves again this year with their festival of trees. Last year I thought, "they can't be more beautiful," but each year they area. Saturday afternoon Les Graham and his team of black Percheron horses took people for sleigh rides. The community choir sang for everyone's entertainment. All proceeds from the sale of items and donations go to the local hospital. Way to go, ladies.
Sunday, Dec. 1 the Maidstone High School leadership group put on a bountiful, delicious supper for all seniors 70 or older. The Legion Hall was beautifully decorated as were the tables. The students served tea, coffee and dessert. The main meal was buffet style. The elementary school students entertained with a number of Christmas songs suitable for the occasion, each wearing an elf's hat. A big thanks goes out from about 90 people who attended this enjoyable evening.
A large number of door prizes were drawn for and on top of a wonderful evening, each lady present was given a rose to take home. This memorable evening, planned and worked for, was greatly enjoyed.
Cards were played Dec. 2 with high score for cribbage going to Bev Stewart and low to Jean Hartman. Lunch was provide by Jean Stewart and Margaret MacEachern.
Bing was played Dec. 4 with a good turnout on such a cold day. Margaret MacEachern and Jean Hartman did the calling. The loonie pot was won by Noel Coulthard. Norma Hougan and Jean Stewart provided lunch.
The catered Christmas party was held Dec. 8 with more than 50 seniors in attendance. The Catholic Altar Society ladies provided a delicious supper. A program of skits, recitations, singing and jokes followed. The evening came to a close with Vince Gerkinsky on the keyboard playing Christmas carols and everyone joining in the singing. The door prize was won by Idel Robb. Oranges and Christmas cake made by Joyce Jeffery was served before everyone went home.
