Jan. 3, the young people are back to school. We wish them success and happiness in their studies.
The community was busy with family parties throughout the holiday season. Eva Sutherland of Pine Island Lodge spent Christmas Day with her daughter Sandra Sutherland and family.
With the Driver family having moved to North Battleford a few changes have been made in the village. Replacing Mitch Driver at the water treatment plant will be Curtis Sutherland. Curtis will be learning on the job. He spent time at the water plant before Mitch left, is working under supervision and will be taking courses in North Battleford and Saskatoon.
Mitch also did the garbage pick up in the village. The Smarts will be replacing him at that job.
Best wishes to Leah Nabis who is enrolled at Lakeland College in Lloydminster taking a course which will enable her to be a licensed nursing practitioner.
With the holiday behind us, committees and other activities will resume. The Waseca 100th Anniversary Committee will resume its monthly meetings beginning Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m.
The Waseca Quilters will be meeting on the first and third Wednesday of each month at the community centre. All quilters are welcome.
The ice is being put in at the Waseca rink. Hopefully it will be open for skating soon. Volunteers are needed to do the work at the rink. How about dropping in at the rink to see what you can do? Skating is wonderful exercise.
The Christmas season is a wonderful time to be in touch with long-time friends. One person I am always in touch with is Anne (Macauley) Walker of Victoria, B.C.
Anne grew up in the Battlevale district about four miles from Waseca. She was one of five children born to Andrew and Lillian Macauley who farmed in the district. Andrew was also an MLA representing the area.
Anne is the only remaining member of that family and, at the age of over 90 years, is still living on her own and is very interested in everything around her. Our discussions always cover many topics. She is in touch with her late brother Jim's family, Andrew and George Macauley, who also live in Victoria.
