The Battlefords will host the annual Relay For Life event at Centennial Park Track Friday, June 6 at 7 p.m.

"Relay is a chance for people all around the community to come together for one purpose," said Laura Zary-Jackson, co-chair of the 2014 Battlefords Relay For Life Committee. "We all relay for a different reason but the main reason comes down to putting an end to cancer, because it has taken or affected far too many people."

With 24 teams, 336 participants, 140 survivors and 114 volunteers, the 2013 Battlefords Relay For Life raised a total of $111,154.

According to a press release, these funds have helped the Canadian Cancer Society lead cancer research to better prevent cancer, influence public policy for quality cancer care everywhere in Canada, focus support programs towards the crucial needs of patients and caregivers and engage more Canadians in the fight against cancer.

Teams of six to 15 people will gather together for an overnight journey. The participants who attend will be joining a global movement that brings together more than 200,000 people throughout Canada each year.

The committee says it's a night to celebrate cancer survivors, honour and remember loved ones and a way for each of us to fight back against cancer.
