The elementary students at Neilburg Composite School celebrated their achievements during the 2010-2011 academic year Tuesday afternoon, June 28.

The Kindergarten students led those gathered in the singing of O Canada. Vice-Principal Brenda Gross was the emcee for the program.

The Grade 1 and 2 class sang It's Quiet in the Library, before reciting a poem titled The Last Day of School. Mrs. Perkins presented each child with a Winnit award featuring stickers for things they accomplished or participated in throughout the year.

The Grade 3 and 4 students presented The ABC's of School before playing three recorder songs. They also received Winnit certificates.

The Kindergarten students wore black mortar board hats they had made in class. They sang three songs, Going on a Picnic, Swimming and Beep! Choo! Zoom! Honk! before receiving official Kindergarten diplomas and their Winnits.

Then it was time for the Grade 5 and 6 students to take to the stage. They sang a song called Colours, accompanied by Mr. Volk on the guitar. They were also presented with Winnit awards.

Ann Hewko played a piano solo, as did Dianne Dimaano, Ethel Borja and Hallie Goodfellow.

The Allan Craig Award for Grade 6 social studies went to Jenna McGarry, who was not present to accept her award. Colby Urlacher received the Nicola Schurry Award (a $200 scholarship), presented by Mrs. Deb Hein.

Receiving Honour awards (for an average of 80-89 per cent) were Grade 4 students Carter Cammidge, John Peters, Hannah Prystupa and Colton Schmidt. Grade 5 recipients were Lindsay Gibbons, Craig Hewko and Jarrod Ryan. Achieving Honours status for Grade 6 were Kristian Hiscock, Ethan Moir and Colby Urlacher.

Prior to final dismissal, the "hot lunch ladies" - Tracy Goodfellow, Kara McGarry, Fay Hewko and Karen Brockhoff - were thanked for their hard work every week and presented with gift certificates.
