Neilburg Composite School students in the elementary grades were honoured and celebrated for excellence at an event held in the school gym, June 27.

The afternoon program was led by vice-principal Brenda Gross as the master of ceremonies. The Grade 3 and 4 class led in the singing of Oh Canada.

The Grade 1 and 2 students performed a Zumba dance before singing Walking on Sunshine. Miss Massey then presented her pupils with Winnit awards.

The Grade 3 and 4 class were the next onto the stage. They sang the Kindergarten Song and a camping song. They also danced to the tune Achy, Breaky Heart. Mrs. Newport handed out Winnits to each student.

The kindergarten students, led by Mrs. Gibbons, said a kindergarten poem and also did a graduation rap song. They received their diplomas and Winnits from Mrs. Carlton.

The Grade 5 and 6 class sang the song Complicated before receiving their Winnits from Ms. Johnson.

Three students, who take piano lessons in the school from Mrs. Park, played musical selections. Craig Hewko played Party Rock Anthem; Tidja Hoeppner-Basha played Boogie on Broadway and the Russian Sailor Dance; and Ethel Borja played Down by the Bay.

The Allan Craig Award for Social Studies and the Nicola Schurry Award were both presented to Grade 6 student, Wyatt Marshall. Honour roll awards were also presented to many students in Grades 4 through 6. Mrs. Gross presented awards to the Legion Poster and Essay Contest winners announced earlier at the November 11 service. The Tuesday "Hot Lunch Ladies" who volunteer to make a nutritious meal for the students and staff each week, were also singled out for appreciation.

Kaylyn Koch, dressed in full highland costume, performed a sword dance before the program concluded and school was dismissed for another year.
