LANIGAN — Lanigan’s first ever tractor pull will part of a full weekend of activities
Celebrate Lanigan, happening throughout the entire June 21 weekend features three days of “activities for everyone in the family that doubles as fundraising opportunities for several community clubs,” said Loretta Uchacz, Lanigan’s recreation director.
Events include slow-pitch league games, a colour run, a dog agility show, and an antique car and tractor show. Proceeds from each will be going to the events individual hosts, including community clubs such as the Lanigan Water park committee, Youth Fusion, the Heritage Association and the Lanigan Pirates hockey team.
The tractor pull competition is expected to draw at least 25 competitors from as far north as Prince Albert with tractors built no later than 1965.
“No one’s ever done this in Lanigan,” said co-ordinator Darcy Mehrer. “I know the town is on board, they think this is awesome.”
It will take place on Downing Drive, a few buildings east of the Central Parkland Lodge. Mehrer said he is co-ordinating with the Lodge to transport their elderly residence to see the competition.
“I’m sure their eyes will be glued on everything,” he said.
“A lot of work was put into bringing [the tractor pull] together,” said Uchacz. As well as fundraising, she said the event was inspired to help “bring the community together.”
Celebrate Lanigan will be held June 21, 22 and 23. Some of the events include fireworks on the evening on June 21, a cabaret at the curling rink on June 21 at 9 pm, a colour run starting at the town hall on June 22 at 8 am, an antique car and tractor show on Downing Drive on June 22 from 10 am to 3 pm, and the tractor pulls at the east end of Downing Drive on June 23 starting at 12:30 pm.
