May 25 through June 1 is World Catholic Education Week, and a number of events have being going on at Light of Christ Catholic School Division schools.

Thursday, May 29 has been proclaimed as World Catholic Education Day by the Catholic Bishops of Saskatchewan.

In their proclamation letter, Most Rev. Daniel J. Bohan, Archbishop of Regina, Most Rev. Albert Thevenot, Bishop of Prince Albert, Most Rev. Donald Bolen, Bishop of Saskatoon and Most Rev. Bryan Bayda, Ukrainian Eparchial Bishop, state, "On this day Catholics across the globe give thanks for the gift of Catholic education and we joyfully celebrate the unique identity and distinctive contributions of Catholic education in the lives of people around the world.

"Through the faith-filled foresight of our ancestors, in Saskatchewan we are blessed with a constitutional right to publicly funded Catholic Education. Through our eight Catholic school divisions we educate over 37,000 students from kindergarten to Grade 12 in 120 Catholic schools.

"This year's theme, 'Serving in the Love of Christ' is most fitting since all those involved in Catholic Education believe that they are truly providing a valuable service to the students that they so willingly serve."
