CARROT RIVER — Carrot River residents are getting their last chance to donate to donor’s choice this year— which is all being done without door-to-door canvassing.
“As has been tradition, we are once again running a donor’s choice campaign in the Town of Carrot River and RM of Moose Range,” said Kevin Trew, Carrot River’s administrator.
“Many people choose it, I think, because they like to annually give to both local charities and national or provincial charities. It’s a one stop shop kind of thing for them where they can donate with the knowledge that they won’t be hit up for further donations throughout the year.”
Typically, Carrot River donor’s choice raises between $20,000 and $10,000 from throughout the community.
“We used to do a door-to-door campaign where canvases would come to people’s doors, or they might even do a phone meet-and-greet kind of thing, but this year due to the Covid pandemic we arranged that we’re not going to be doing any canvassing,” Trew said.
This year, throughout the month of October residents can deliver cheques to specified locations to make their donor’s choice donations.
These locations are the Carrot River branch of the Diamond North Credit Union, Carrot River town office and RM of Moose Range office.
There are 22 charitable organizations listed, local, provincial and national, but an unlisted charity can be wrote in.
Trew said that by donating this way residents will not be added to any unwanted mailing lists.
“Your donation, through donor’s choice will not put your name on a mail-out list or a phone list. Therefore, you can donate through this and national charities will not have your name— they will have the Carrot River donor’s choice name.”
If residents still want to donate after the deadline, Trew said the town office will continue accepting donations for the first week or two of November. The office can be reached at (306) 768-2515.
All cheques should be made out to “Donor's Choice.” Anyone who makes a donation will receive an official tax deductible donation receipt immediately after they make their donations.
