Still no real relief, but we now know it won't get worse. We really are a tough bunch, aren't we? Just thinking back to how the pioneers suffered their way through cold times like this without any of today's conveniences or light warm clothing, we should smile. Then think of the hours spent on the road with horses, going to school, to town or for feed for livestock. It makes one shiver. Now the United States are getting another winter snowstorm. Imagine how sick they must be getting of it all.

Our Down Under travellers are back and with nice tans, though they did suffer some sunburn after driving down the Gold Coast road with the top down. A gentleman in the other lane hollered over to them, "You're going to get wet!' when they were coming into a rain squall. They did get a bit damp, but when it's that hot, who cares? The price of a litre of gasoline at one site was $2.49, but if you need it, you pay it. Now back in Canada Linda doesn't mind the cold after being too hot, for too long, but my two girls are minding the cold and wishing it would go away.
Advice to users of any electronic devise using lithium batteries, don't leave your cellphone, GPS, camera, iPad or tablets on the dash of your car where the sun could heat it up to the point where it may explode. This makes a terrible mess of your vehicle. This may not happen in this weather, but it will warm up and even now we feel the heat strength of the sun's rays.
Russia gave each of their gold medal winners $120,000 and a Mercedes car. No wonder they try so hard.
Because there are many times when there is nothing worth watching on TV, I decided it was a good time to start sorting tapes in my cabinet full of old ones, mostly that I took of family and trips during the past years and discarding some. I watched one of scenes from my kitchen window at Chitek. Made me rather homesick. We have such pretty birds in the winter. The red Pine Grosbeaks and the yellow and black Evening Grosbeaks are not as plentiful as back a few years. Then there are the Purple Finches, the Red Polls, the Pine Siskins and I even had pictures of the one time there were two ptarmigans just down the street. And of course there are many pictures of the three deer that frequented the feeders, theirs and the birds', and also a big many-pointed buck. This is just another step in downsizing ones belongings.
