ANNAHEIM — The community of Annaheim is continuing to raise money for their new playground.
A 19+ cabaret will be held on Feb. 8 at the Annaheim Hall with Forty Ounce Philosophy performing.
Charlene Choboter, treasurer with the Annaheim Playground Committee, said they still need funds and hopes they gain even more support from the cabaret.
The current playground is a 25-year-old wood structure that Choboter said has seen some parts repaired.
“It still meets all safety and code regulations," she said, adding the committee wants the structure replaced before it does not meet the standards and is therefore unsafe.
Newer playgrounds also have new features for more diverse play, something that the current Annaheim playground does not have.
The $123,000 funding goal will go towards refurbishing the entire playground area on the south side of Annaheim School, including purchasing a new single piece steel structure, new swing sets, a saucer swing, and teeter totters, as well as materials for the installation.
Choboter said Annaheim community members and businesses have been helping with fundraising ideas and donations. Surrounding communities and businesses, including ones from Naicam, Spalding, Lake Lenore, Quill Lake and Humboldt, have also donate directly to the playground or have supported recent fundraisers to reduce costs for the committee. The committee has also been able to apply for local grants which has helped as well.
“There’s been a lot of support from all over for the playground.â€
The cabaret will include a silent auction and midnight lunch.
Tickets are available in advance at the St. Peter’s RM office in Annaheim, Prairie Diesel and will also be available at the door.
